Holiday Folly for Charity! Wednesday, November 11, 2009 (16:12:26)
|
|
Hi All,
As announced at our meeting last week, we are going to participate in a holiday charity concert in conjunction with New Belgium and Kyle Hollingsworth. The concert will be on Sunday, December 13th at 6pm at New Belgium Brewery.
Kyle is the keyboard player for String Cheese Incident and he also has his own band, The Kyle Hollingsworth Band. Kyle is currently on tour with his band. He is an avid homebrewer. As part of his tour, he will be playing an intimate show in Brew House #2. All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Larimer County Food Bank. Kyle's manager and NBB reached out to us as a club on his behalf and invited us to participate in this event. This is great for us, as this is also our chosen charity. We are going to be brewing a 20 gallon batch of beer to be served at the event along with a special batch of NBB beer brewed with Kyle.
Tickets are limited, so get them while you can! Tickets are $45 for general admission and $65 for VIP tickets including a special tour of the brewery with Kyle starting at 3:45pm. You can find out all the info about Kyle's tour, as well as the NBB date at his website. Scroll down the list of dates until you find the one for this event. There is a link for ticket sales on his site, within the info for this event.
I think this is going to be very special and I hope to see some Poets in attendance. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Cheers!

Big Brew This Saturday! Monday, April 28, 2008 (11:56:47)
|
|
BIG BREW IS SAT MAY 3rd - LOCATED AT:
4424 Starflower Dr Fort Collins CO 80526 between the hours of 8am to 7pm. See below for equipment sign up stations!
Just a friendly reminder that Big Brew is coming up on Saturday May 3rd from 8 AM to 7 PM. The festivities this year will be held at my house in South Fort Collins.
Once again, Hops and Berries is sponsoring this event by providing brats, buns, beers and other beverages. So make sure to thank Colin and Shannon for the grillables and the cool refreshing beverages! Please feel free to bring a side dish or something to share.
We plan on having some "Brewing Stations" setup, so if you do not have gear to bring, or your gear is not super portable, we should have a sign up list soon to get on a list to use a burner, kettle, mashtun, chiller and other gear. If you do plan on bringing gear, and are willing to let other people use it for a morning or afternoon time slot, please let me know. (You can email at lp.eventscoordinater @ gmail.com)
It should be tons of fun and hopefully the weather cooperates. Even if you are not planning on brewing, stop by and say hello. Last year we brewed 200 gallons of beer and mead in one day, lets CRUSH that number this year!
Please let Hops & Berries or I know if you have any questions about Big Brew, what to bring, or anything else.
See you on Saturday!

Definition: Phenolic Wednesday, February 07, 2007 (18:48:43)
|
|
This is an aroma and taste often compared to Band-aids (tm), medicine chest or disinfectant. Chlorophenols are particularly offensive members of this family with bleach-like flavors in addition to the ones listed above. High levels of phenols are generally produced by bacteria or wild yeast, both of which indicate a sanitation problem. Phenols may also be extracted from grain husks by overcrushing, oversparging or sparging with hot or alkaline water. Chlorinated water or sanitizer residue are possible sources of chlorophenols. Phenolic flavors are generally never desirable, the exception being the clove-like, vanilla-like or slightly smoky flavors and aromas in Bavarian wheat beers and some Belgian ales. |
